The Nineties...

Outstanding events

 

1991

On June 29, Hernando de Soto, Peruvian economist and ideologist, receives the doctor honoris causa degree and delivers the commencement address at the graduation of MAE XXIII and MEEIII, in the Walter Kissling Gam Campus in Costa Rica. In July 6, Pablo Antonio Cuadra, Nicaraguan poet and ideologist, receives the doctor honoris causa degree.

In September, Brizio Biondi-Morra, academic and businessman, becomes the sixth president of INCAE. The first graduation of the MBA Executive Program (MAEX I), takes place in Costa Rica.

1993

In May, an agreement is signed between INCAE and the Fundación Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho of Venezuela for training students and masters’ professors. In June 26, Stephan Schmidheiny, Swiss businessman, receives the Doctor Honoris Causa degree and delivers the commencement address at the graduation of MAE XXV in Costa Rica.

The Master in Administration of Industry and Technology (MAIT) program begins. The Development Office was created and through it, along with the support of the Nicaraguan government, the debt that came from the building and expansion of the Nicaraguan Campus was paid off.

 

1994

In May takes place the celebration of the 30th anniversary of INCAE at the Harvard Business School. George Cabot Lodge, professor of the Harvard Business School and a key person in the founding of INCAE, receives the doctor honoris causa degree and delivers the commencement address at the graduation of PAF XI, Campus Francisco de Sola, Nicaragua on July 1.

INCAE receives accreditation from SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools).

 

1995

First visit of Michael Porter to Central America, organized by INCAE in October. Michael Porter meets with the presidents of the Central American countries at INCAE, Costa Rica, and then at Harvard.

 

1996

The celebration of the return of the MAE program (MAE XXX) to Nicaragua, takes place on February 26.

On June 20, a Central American presidential summit is held at INCAE, on the occasion of a visit of Michael Porter, Nicaragua. Michael Porter receives the doctor honoris causa degree and delivers the commencement address at the graduation of MAE XXVIII, on June 22.

The founding of the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development takes place on September 1. Finally, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Stephan Schmidheiny Building takes place on November 30.

1997

On June 28, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, first woman president of Nicaragua 1990-1997, receives the doctor honoris causa degree and delivers the commencement address at the graduation of MAE XXX at the Francisco de Sola Campus.

1999

In April, Roberto Artavia becomes the seventh president of INCAE. He is the first INCAE MBA graduate to hold this position.

In April, Brizio Biondi-Morra becomes the president of the board of directors of INCAE. Also in April, INCAE receives accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Walter Kissling Gam receives the doctor honoris causa degree at the graduation of MAE XXXIII and MEE XI, Costa Rica in May. The inauguration of the Stephan Schmidheiny Building at the Campus Walter Kissling Gam, Costa Rica takes place in June.

 

 

1992

The Master in Administration of Natural Resources (MARN) program begins in September.

1990

In March, INCAE celebrates its 25th anniversary at the Costa Rican campus, with the participation of Derek Bok, president of Harvard University.

In November, an Advanced Management Banking program is presented in Uruguay and an Advanced Management Program in Paraguay. The Economic Studies and Training Program (PROGRESEC) is established in Ecuador to foment dialog on economic policy. INCAE’s first Executive MBA begins in the Costa Rican Campus, after three years of experimenting with an executive program held along with the Universidad Católica de Asunción in Paraguay.
