INCAE’s Board of Directors is the institution’s most important governing body. The Rector is the only executive figure among the Board and is the one who has the responsibility of leading the managerial team and the faculty to implement annual strategies.

Francisco de Sola presided over the Board from its creation in 1964 until his passing in 1983. Given the passing of Francisco de Sola in 1983 and for a brief period, Dr. Ricardo Castañeda was elected interim president of the Board, representing El Salvador and who presided the meeting where Walter Kissling Gam was elected as the new chairman. Walter Kissling Gam presided the Board until 1999 when Brizio Biondi-Morra, former INCAE Rector, became the Board’s chairman.

In 2012, Roberto Artavia Loria, former INCAE Rector, became the newest Chairman of the Board. Also, for the first time in INCAE’s history, a Vice President of the Board is named. Carlos Pellas, one of the Institution’s main allies and who previously served as President of the Nicaraguan National Committee for more than a decade, took this position.

Members of the Board have the title of Directors. Their main responsibilities have been to name the Rectors and supervise their work, approve the strategy, issue guidelines for managing the endowment, define INCAE’s geographical expansion, supervise the work of the National Committees, support the Rector’s Office in fundraising and high-end network creation, approve significant capital investments and represent INCAE in special occasions of its institutional life.
